DETROIT - Johan Franzen, Jiri Hudler, Darren Helm and Henrik Zetterberg scored for Detroit as the Red Wings beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Sunday.

The defending Stanley Cup champions' dominating performance gave them a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series. Game 6 will be Tuesday night at Anaheim.

Ryan Whitney scored late in the second period and Jonas Hiller stopped 34 shots, giving the Ducks a chance until Helm made it 3-1 at 16:52 of the third. Zetterberg added an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Detroit goalie Chris Osgood finished with 16 saves.

Franzen had his seventh goal of the post-season and scored for the 20th time in 25 playoff games since the start of last year's title run. He usually blends in behind the Red Wings' other stars, unless it's the playoffs.

Franzen, who has six goals in six games, scored twice in Game 4 to help Detroit even the series in Anaheim.

The player nicknamed Mule scored 13 times in the playoffs last year, matching a franchise record for one post-season, despite missing six games because blood pooled between his skull and brain.

In the pivotal Game 5, he scored the first goal at 3:23 of the second period. Franzen skated up the right boards, swooped into the right circle and flicked a wrist shot high on Hiller after many of Detroit's first 16 shots were low.

Hudler scored 39 seconds later, whacking a puck out of the air after Hiller deflected it. The goal held up after a video review.

Whitney prevented the Ducks from being shut out with his goal late in the second period.
