Kronwall makes season debut for Detroit; Arizona seeks first victory

The Game

The Arizona Coyotes will try for their first win of the season when they host the Detroit Red Wings at Gila River Arena on Thursday.

Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall will make his season debut after missing the first three games with a groin injury. Kronwall will play on the top pair with Mike Green. Defenseman Danny DeKeyser will not play after sustaining a lower-body injury in the second period of a 4-2 loss at the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Coyotes forward Jordan Martinook will return after missing a 5-2 loss at the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday because of a lower-body injury. Defenseman Kevin Connauton (lower body) won't play.


Players to watch

Green leads the Red Wings with six points (six assists). He had two assists against Dallas and had four assists in a season-opening 4-2 win against the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 5.

Coyotes rookie Clayton Keller has one goal, two points and 10 shots on goal in his first three games. His shot total ranks second among rookies (Charles Hudon, Montreal Canadiens; 16) and his average ice time (20:28) ranks first among rookies.

Status report

Clendening, who was signed to a one-year, $650,000 contract on July 1, will make his Coyotes debut. ... Etem was recalled from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Wednesday but will be scratched with Cousins returning.
