Detroit Red Wings season snapshot fantasy honors

With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League's 31 teams.

Today, a fantasy recap of the Detroit Red Wings at the pause:

Fantasy MVP: Dylan Larkin, C (rank: 130) --He leads the Detroit Red Wings in assists (34) and points (53), is tied for their lead in power-play points (14), and ranks 18th in the NHL with 223 shots on goal. Larkin has also helped frequent linemate Anthony Mantha, who has missed 28 games because of injuries, to a breakout season with 38 points (16 goals, 22 assists) in 43 games, an NHL career-high average of 0.88 points per game. Since Mantha's return from an upper-body injury Feb. 11, he and Larkin have combined for 27 points (eight goals, 19 assists) in 14 games.

Biggest surprise: Tyler Bertuzzi, LW/RW -- He leads the Red Wings in goals with 21, tying his NHL career high set last season in two fewer games; has more than doubled his output on the power play (14 points) compared to last season (six); and has an NHL career high in points with 48. Bertuzzi, who frequently plays with Larkin and Mantha on the top line, has maintained fantasy relevance for most of the season with a heavy workload of 19:19 of ice time per game, which ranks second among Red Wings forwards.

Unsung hero: Jonathan Bernier, G --With Detroit being last in the NHL standings by a wide margin and in a full rebuild, it's remarkable that Bernier has respectable fantasy totals, going 15-22-3 with a 2.95 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage and one shutout. Bernier, who ranks 12th among NHL goalies in games played (46), has been worth streaming in deeper leagues for much of the season. It's also worth noting Bernier has a better even-strength SV% (.918) than some highly regarded fantasy goalies, including Frederik Andersen of the Toronto Maple Leafs (.917), Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights (.915), Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens (.914) and Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals (.906).
