Desharnais not playing for Canadiens vs. Devils

by Arpon Basu / NHL.com

MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens center David Desharnais (virus) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.

Desharnais is eighth in team scoring with 21 points in 44 games.

His absence forced Canadiens coach Michel Therrien to juggle his forward lines, and to dress seven defensemen with Francis Bouillon was in uniform to take Desharnais’ spot in the lineup.

Desharnais normally skates between Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher on Montreal’s top offensive line, one that plays on the No. 1 power-play unit. Lars Eller moved up from the third line and took that spot Tuesday, with Daniel Briere moving over from his spot on Eller’s wing to center the third line.
