Defending QMJHL champion Voltigeurs open new season with rout of Foreurs @NHLdotcom

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. - The defending champion Drummondville Voltigeurs picked up where they left off from last season, hammering the Val-d'Or Foreurs 8-1 Thursday in the opening game of the 2009-10 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.

Andrew Randazzo led the Voltigeurs (1-0-0) with two goals and an assist. Ondrej Palat also scored twice, while team captain Marc-Olivier Vachon had a goal and two assists.

Sean Couturier, Mathieu Milse and Jonathan Oligny also scored for Drummondville.

Olivier Archambault replied for Val-d'Or (0-1-0).

Antoine Tardif made 14 saves for the Voltigeurs.

Sean Coulton and Raffaele D'Orso combined for 35 saves for the Foreurs.

The Voltigeurs led the QMJHL last season with a 54-win, 112-point campaign, and won the league title after beating Shawinigan in seven games in the final round of the playoffs. They were beaten by the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires in the semifinal of the Memorial Cup.
