Defending champion Attack open OHL season with 6-2 win over Whalers @NHLdotcom

OWEN SOUND, Ont. - Brendan Childerley scored twice as the Owen Sound Attack opened their defence of the Ontario Hockey League title with a 6-2 win over the Plymouth Whalers in Wednesday's season opener.

Childerley opened the scoring 15:41 into the first period, then scored the winner at 7:58 of the second as Owen Sound (1-0-0) opened a 4-0 lead by the midway point of the second.

Gemel Smith, Daniel Catenacci, Zach Nastasiuk and Joseph Blandisi, while short-handed, had the other Owen Sound goals.

Mitchell Heard and Andy Bathgate, on a power play, replied for Plymouth (0-1-0).

John-Paul Cesario made 29 saves for the Attack, while Matt Mahalak stopped 25 shots for the Whalers.

The chippy game featured 64 minutes in minor and major penalties, as well as 10-minute misconducts for the Whalers' Beau Schmitz and the Attack's Jay Gilbert and Daniel Zweep.
