WINDSOR, Ont. - Defencemen Rob Kwiet and Ryan Ellis scored two goals apiece and Andrew Engelage made 19 saves as the Windsor Spitfires beat the Owen Sound Attack 7-4 to take a 1-0 lead in the Ontario Hockey League quarter-final playoff series.
Ellis opened the scoring for the Spitfires on a two-man power play when he rifled a slapshot from the point past Attack netminder Tyler Beskorowany. Kwiet and Greg Nemisz also scored to put the Spitfires up by three goals after the opening period.
Beskorowany was injured on Kwiet's second goal of game in the second period and was replaced by Scott Stacjer with the Attack being outshot 23-7.
Eric Wellwood and Taylor Hall, into an empty net, had Windsor's other goals.
Joey Hishon lead the Attack offensively with a goal and two assists while David Kolomatis, Mike Lomas and Joe Vanni had the Attack's other markers. Former Spitfire Garrett Wilson chipped in with two assists for Owen Sound.
Stacjer allowed only Ellis' second goal of the game, an unassisted effort in the third period. The Spitfires had 54 shots in the game.
