DeAngelo scores in overtime as West Division-leading Sting sink Whalers 5-4

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Sarnia rookie Anthony DeAngelo's first career Ontario Hockey League goal 1:21 into overtime completed a late-game comeback as the Sting beat the Plymouth Whalers 5-4 Saturday night.

The Whalers carried a 4-2 lead into the third period, but Brett Ritchie and Reid Boucher tied the game at 4-4 to send the game to overtime.

Nail Yakupov and Alex Basso each had a goal and two assists for the West Division-leading Sting (7-1-1), while Brandon Hope and Brandon Maxwell combined for 29 saves. Hope stopped 25 through two periods, including a penalty shot attempt by Alex Aleardi. Maxwell stopped all four shots he faced in the third period.

JT Miller recorded two goals for Plymouth (4-4-2) and Mitchell Heard and Jamie Devane added singles.

Scott Wedgewood made 46 saves in the loss.
