Day 4: Storm no trouble for NHL's ice build crew

by Stuart Shea /
Dan Craig and the NHL Ice Crew ventured into Wrigley Field on Friday morning to find a thick blanket of new snow covering almost everything they've been working on since Tuesday.

Only the boards, installed Thursday night, and the outfield TV booths, which workers also began constructing yesterday, peeked above the sparkling white. The two TV booths, one in left-center and one in right-center, will house the pre- and post-game hosts from NBC and CBC.

Thursday night's ice storm caused the crew few worries. With a few extra days built into the process, and having had excellent weather over the previous two days to do their floor-building, Craig and his workers cleared off the aluminum and began preparations to flood the metal surface with some of the 20,000 gallons of water they will use over the next several days in order to construct the two-inch-thick game ice.
