ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - David Van Der Gulik scored the winner for Abbotsford in the eighth round of the shootout as the Heat came back from a 3-0 deficit to squeeze out a 4-3 win over the Toronto Marlies in American Hockey League action Tuesday.

Brett Sutter also scored in the shootout for Abbotsford, while Josh Engel replied for the Marlies. Van Der Gulik beat Marlies netminder Joey MacDonald with a backhander high glove-side for the winner.

Abbotsford trailed 3-0 halfway through the second period, but came back with three power-play goals to force overtime.

After watching their power play go 0-for-4 in the game's first ten minutes, the Heat got things going with the man advantage in the second.

Shawn Weller put home his first of the season off of a Josh Meyers rebound at 15:11.

Then 1:28 into the third, Gord Baldwin picked up his third goal in three games.

Cam Cunning completed the comeback when he redirected Steffan Kronwall's point shot past MacDonald for his ninth of the season at 14:58.

The Marlies opened the scoring in the dying seconds of the first when Kyle Calder poked home a loose puck past Heat netminder David Shantz.

Toronto made it 2-0 just over two minutes into second as Ashton Rome ripped a wrist shot from the faceoff dot that beat Shantz.

Greg Scott ended Shantz's night when he put Toronto up 3-0 near the midway mark of the second period.

Shantz, starting his fourth consecutive game, surrendered three goals on 15 shots and was relieved by Matt Keetley.

Keetley finished with 11 saves for his ninth win of the season, while MacDonald made 34 saves in the loss.
