The defenseman was injured Jan. 12 blocking a shot during a 5-1 loss at the Boston Bruins.
Savard played seven games before he was scratched Saturday, when the Canadiens lost 7-2 to the Edmonton Oilers.
The 31-year-old scored nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 42 games in his first season with Montreal after signing a four-year, $14 million contract ($3.5 million average annual value) as a free agent this offseason.
He scored six points (one goal, five assists) in 54 regular-season games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Tampa Bay Lightning last season, and had five assists in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help the Lightning win the Stanley Cup.
The Canadiens played Saturday without defenseman Joel Edmundson (undisclosed); goalie Jake Allen (lower body); and forwards Paul Byron (hip), Brendan Gallagher (lower body), Jonathan Drouin (upper body), Christian Dvorak (concussion protocol) and Mathieu Perreault (undisclosed).
Gallagher and Byron are expected to play against the Blue Jackets on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; TSN2, RDS, BSOH, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). The Canadiens (8-28-7) have lost five in a row (0-3-2) and are 1-7-4 in their past 12 games.
