I’m a big believer that you can't do anything in the Playoffs unless your Power Play is clicking. Unfortunately our Power Play is not bouncing for us right now. Everything was swallowed up. It was like shooting at a sponge, and Fleury got the better of us.
Watching the game, how can you say anything but "what an outstanding performance by Fleury?" He stood on his head for them.
He's a great goaltender, top-10 in the league and will be for some time. I think you have to look at it as we just got out-worked by the goaltender. We came out there hard and really threw the rubber at him. It just seemed not to go our way in the first; our forecheck was great, we established a physical presence, but it didn't translate to goals.
Our major problem right now? Our Power Play isn't working. I mean, how many chances can you get?
Now, all of a sudden, you find yourself down in a hole that seems just about impossible to get back out of. The fact that we have players that have overcome adversity....I can't give enough props to Mike Richards
, he was doing everything he could to keep them in the game, to get them going, to raise his entire team's level of play.
I said it before, it's just that veteran presence we're missing. Richards and the rest of this young crew need just a little seasoning to bring them over the hump.
Biron had a good game too, but it wasn't enough. There are going to be question marks about Biron getting re-signed, but I don't want to go there yet. You have to believe that you can come back, I mean it's happened to us. One thing I know from Philly, we need that physical presence to push the puck with some power into the offensive, tough areas.
Obviously our next game is in Pittsburgh and from what I've heard, the players are talking about having played a better game than Pitt 5-on-5 in the first few games. But say what you want, the final outcome is that you didn't get the 'W' and you have to say to yourself that you're down 3-1 and unless something happens, you'll be golfing soon.
That's the focus now - that, and nothing else: Game 4.
I can't stand Pittsburgh, but I congratulate them on last night. It was definitely Playoff hockey. To me, Carcillo scoring was almost salt in the wound. This guy comes in and finally gets a goal with about 7 minutes to go. Too little, too late. That was the one guy who scores?! I mean, how are we letting Tyler Kennedy
and his line come in and score?! Where are our big dogs? Our goal-scorers, our go-to guys? It's nice that Carcillo scored, but come on boys! We need more!
Right now we have to focus on the game, we're going to Pittsburgh. We’ll steal one there, get one back on our home ice, and all of a sudden you've got a series.
I hate that this sounds so final, because I still have hope. I will always proudly wear the Orange and Black. We’ve had a lot of bad times, and this might just be one short one, but we've also had our share of good times and there are many more ahead.
Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for them.
