Center David Backes has signed with the Boston Bruins, Sportsnet reported Friday.
Backes had 45 points (21 goals, 24 assists) in 79 games with the St. Louis Blues last season. In 10 NHL seasons with St. Louis, Backes had 460 points (206 goals, 254 assists), and was named Blues captain prior to the start of the 2011-12 season. He has 12 goals and 15 assists points in 49 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
After a previous career-high of four points (two goals, two assists) in the 2012 postseason, Backes surpassed that mark last season with 14 points (seven goals, seven assists), including two overtime goals; the first in a 1-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round, and the second in a 4-3 victory against the Dallas Stars in Game 2 of the second round.
