Dave Lozo's All-Star picks @NHLdotcom Staff All-Star Picks

Lozo ballot

Tim Thomas, Bruins -- A case can be made for the Kings' Jonathan Quick or the Blues' Jaroslav Halak, but Thomas has been far and away the best goaltender during the first six weeks of the season. He's among the League leaders in wins, goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts. He may cool off at some point, but right now, he's the best in the League.

Nicklas Lidstrom, Red Wings -- Lidstrom doesn't age like fine wine. Fine wines age like Nicklas Lidstrom. At age 40, he's currently on pace for a 95-point season. And he's doing it while being matched against the opposition's top forwards.

Mike Green, Capitals -- He missed a few games with a stinger, but he's still the best offensive defenseman in the game today. Green also has taken on more responsibility in terms of the defensive side of the game. He's on his way to becoming one of the more complete blueliners in the League.

Alex Ovechkin, Capitals -- I know, shocking. But Ovechkin is the most talented and dominant left wing in the game and hasn't done anything this season to make people think differently. Three of his 10 goals are game-winners, and with 15 assists in 18 games, he's on pace for a career high in that category, too.

Steven Stamkos, Lightning -- The 20-year-old has thrust himself into the argument about who is the best player in the NHL. He has 15 goals in 17 games and leads the League with 28 points. After finishing minus-2 during his 51-goal campaign last season, Stamkos is plus-6 in the early going this season.

Sidney Crosby, Penguins -- Two centers? Sure. It's an All-Star Game, not Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. We can have some guys playing out of position to allow Crosby, who is second in the League in points, a starting spot.
