CALGARY - Calgary Hitmen head coach Dave Lowry will coach the Canadian men's under-18 team at the annual Ivan Hlinka international tournament in August.

Canada will attempt to defend its title Aug. 11-15 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Lowry will make his international coaching debut after guiding the Hitmen to a 59-9-3-1 record and a berth in the Western Hockey League final this season.

The 44-year-old from Sudbury, Ont., played over 1,000 NHL games and was the Calgary Flames captain from 2000 to 2002.

His assistant coaches will be Chris DePiero of the OHL's Oshawa Generals and Mark Holick of the WHL's Kootenay Ice.

Hockey Canada also announced Wednesday that former NHL goaltender Ron Tugnutt will serve as the under-18 team's goaltending consultant.
