WINDSOR, Ont. - Ryan Daniels made 33 saves to lead the Saginaw Spirit to a 3-2 victory over the Windsor Spitfires in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.
Spirit defenceman Garret Sinfield opened the scoring midway through the first period, blasting a shot past screened Windsor goaltender Jakub Kovar.
Spirit all-star centre Jack Combs scored his team-leading 35th goal of the season on a Saginaw power play and Tomas Zaborsky also scored to put the Spirit up by three goals after forty minutes.
Adam Henrique and Josh Bailey scored for the Spitfires in the third period but Windsor could not find the equalizer. Bradley Snetsinger's assist on Henrique's goal was the 100th of his OHL career.
Kovar finished with 28 saves.
The loss snapped Windsor's four-game winning streak and moved the Spirit (26-21-4-2) to within a point of seventh place overall in the OHL's Western Conference.
The Spitfires (32-15-5-4) have 73 points so far this season, 30 points more than last season's dismal campaign when they finished with the second-worst overall record in the OHL.
