Dan Spence makes 28 saves as the Hitmen blank the Ice 4-0 and clinch East @NHLdotcom

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Dan Spence made 28 saves as the Calgary Hitmen blanked the Kootenay Ice 4-0 to secure their spot as Eastern Conference Champions in WHL action Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period Brock Nixon's 30th of the year in the second period proved to be the decisive marker.

In the third period Ryan White scored on a breakaway to put Calgary (46-20-1-4) up 2-0. Brandon Kozun and Carson McMillan added singles late in the third, the latter on a 5-on-3, to seal the Hitmen win.

Ice (42-21-5-3) goaltender Kris Lazaruk stopped 39 of 43 shots in a losing cause.

The Calgary Hitmen will host the Moose Jaw Warriors to open the WHL Playoffs March 21.
