Stars sign Justin Fontaine to professional tryout

FRISCO, Texas-- Right wing Justin Fontaine signed a professional tryout with the the Dallas Stars on Thursday, and he will play in a preseason game against the Los Angeles Kings in Las Vegas on Friday.
"I like his speed," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "It's a chance to look at a player and we'll go from there."

Fontaine, 28, spent the past three seasons with the Minnesota Wild, with 68 points (27 goals, 41 assists) in 197 games. He was in training camp with the Florida Panthers and played in two preseason games before he was released.
The signing comes with the Stars battling injuries to forward in training camp.
Right wing Ales Hemsky injured his groin during the World Cup of Hockey 2016 and didn't skate Thursday. Center Tyler Seguin, who fractured his heel at the World Cup, won't play Friday, but Ruff said he's hopeful Seguin will be ready for opening night against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 13.
Forward Devin Shore's injured ankle is looking better and Ruff said the rookie could play against the Kings on Friday. The Stars also are without forwards Cody Eakin (knee) and Mattias Janmark (forward).
The training camp roster is at 31 players with Fontaine's PTO. Dallas assigned forwards Cole Ully, Remi Elie and Matej Stransky, and goalie Maxime Lagace to Texas of American Hockey League on Thursday.
