With the 79th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, the Stars selected Justin Ertel on Saturday from Summerside of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MJAHL). The 6-foot-2, 187-pound left wing led the Western Capitals with 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists) in 18 games during the 2020-21 regular season, and ranked tied for sixth in MJAHL postseason scoring with nine points (three goals, six assists) in five contests.

"Coming into the draft, Dallas was one of the top teams I talked to," said Ertel. "Knowing them, they have a great organization and have been known to produce a lot of good players, as well as develop them. I'm really looking forward to it."
