FRISCO, Texas (CP) - The Dallas Stars re-signed centre Stu Barnes to a US$900,000, one-year contract on Thursday.
Barnes has been with the Stars since late in the 2002-03 season and was one of three Dallas players to appear in all 82 games last year.
"Stu provides several positive attributes to our organization, including leadership and commitment," said Stars GM Doug Armstrong. "We believe in his abilities to make us a better hockey team and we are happy to have him back."
The 36-year-old had 13 goals and 25 points last season. He also appeared in his 1,000th career NHL game on Nov. 30 at Washington.
Since being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline in 2003, Barnes has registered 41 goals and 56 assists for 97 points in 250 games with Dallas.
A veteran of 15 NHL seasons with Winnipeg, Florida, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Dallas, Barnes has scored 249 goals and 325 assists for 574 points in 1,057 games.
He has also played in two Stanley Cup finals over his career, losing in 1996 with Florida and 1999 with Buffalo.
