COLUMBUS --Joonas Korpisalo played while his teammates rested during the mandatory five-day break and it paid off when he made 35 saves to help the Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Dallas Stars 2-1 in a shootout at Nationwide Arena on Thursday.
Artemi Panarin, in the top of the second round, scored the only goal of the shootout.

Korpisalo played one game for Cleveland of the American Hockey League -- 35 saves in a 2-1 win against Grand Rapids on Saturday -- after the Blue Jackets' most recent game, a 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.

Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said it was planned for Korpisalo to start instead of Sergei Bobrovsky because Bobrovsky has struggled coming off breaks.
"I was preparing myself for this," Korpisalo said. "All the other guys were in Miami or wherever. I came back here to practice and to be ready, make it a little easier for me."
Alexander Radulov tied it 1-1 for Dallas (26-17-4) with 2:05 left in the third period with a redirect of a shot from the left point by John Klingberg. Radulov has 18 goals.
The Stars killed a delay of game penalty to Radulov in overtime, and the Blue Jackets (26-18-3) survived being shorthanded the final 36 seconds for Josh Anderson's hooking penalty.
Dallas had a goal by Antoine Roussel overturned after a challenge by Tortorella at 3:12 of the third period which would have tied the score at 1-1. Roussel jammed in a loose puck after Radulov made contact with Korpisalo.

Jordan Schroeder scored in the first period for Columbus, which had lost two in a row.
Ben Bishop made 25 saves for the Stars, including robbing Alex Wennberg with a glove save with 30 seconds remaining in the third period.
Schroeder, playing on the fourth line, gave Columbus a 1-0 lead at 12:23 with his first goal of the season in his 19th game thanks to a fortunate bounce.
Dallas defenseman Dan Hamhuis tried clearing the puck from behind the net but it glanced off Blue Jackets forward Tyler Motte directly to Schroeder in front.

They said it

"We did a terrific job blocking shots, being in passing lanes. We had a lot of sticks. We did a lot of checking. I wish we had the puck more." -- Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella
"I don't think anybody in this room is going to say it was our best game, but to find a way to get a point at the end of the third, that's a big key for us." -- Stars goaltender Ben Bishop
"I was pretty sure it would be a good goal because I basically wasn't pushing or doing anything, but I guess they saw some contact there. The good thing is we didn't stop playing after that." -- Stars forward Alexander Radulov on the overturned goal
