Robertson nets 100th goal in 5-2 win over Coyotes

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Jason Robertson had a goal and three assists, and set the Dallas Stars' single-season scoring record in a 5-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena on Friday.

"I've had a lot of looks the past couple of games," Robertson said. "I mean a lot, so I was happy when it finally went in. I know it's a big milestone, so I'm just glad it happened."
Robertson's 100th NHL goal gave Dallas a 3-2 lead at 19:38 of the second period, his 94th point this season to surpass Mike Modano's franchise record of 93 in 1992-93. Robertson, alone in the offensive zone after taking Roope Hintz's lead pass, cut through three defenders and dangled the puck momentarily in the high slot before scoring.
"He's got that sneaky shot, he can beat goalies from distance and there's not many guys who can do that in the League," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said of Robertson. "He's one of them, and it was a huge goal timing-wise for us. He gave us a lead going into the third, and it was a big, big, big goal for us."

Robertson then picked up his third assist and 95th point (42 goals, 53 assists) after Jamie Benn extended the lead to 4-2 at 4:56 of the third period, nine seconds into a Dallas power play, by tipping Robertson's shot from the right point.
Hintz had a goal and an assist, and Miro Heiskanen had three assists for the Stars (41-20-14), who won consecutive games for the first time since March 11-13. Jake Oettinger made 16 saves.
Dallas pulled within one point of the Minnesota Wild for first in the Central Division. The Stars play Saturday at the third-place Colorado Avalanche, who trail them by two points.
Hintz went to the Dallas dressing room at 12:13 of the third after being struck in the face by Arizona defenseman Victor Soderstrom's stick and did not return. The Stars did not score on the ensuing four-minute power play.
Hintz needed stitches, DeBoer said, but isn't expected to miss any playing time.
Juuso Valimaki and Connor Mackey scored, and Karel Vejmelka made 26 saves for the Coyotes (27-36-13), who lost their sixth straight (0-4-2) following an eight-game point streak.
"I don't think we played with enough urgency," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. "There's a way to play against that kind of team and I'm not sure our focus was in the right place. … They play a really high-paced game where they're on you all the time, and you've got to be willing to fight through that."
Joe Pavelski gave Dallas a 1-0 lead 1:23 into the first period with his fifth goal in six games.

Valimaki scored 10 seconds into a Coyotes power play to tie it 1-1 at 5:32. Clayton Keller had the assist to extend his team-record point streak to 14 games (11 goals, 12 assists).
"I think we had a really good first period, we were doing the right things, and then we just kind of let them take over the game," Valimaki said. "It starts with winning more battles … so we don't have to defend as much."
Mackey made it 2-1 at 15:14 with his first goal for Arizona on wrist shot from the left circle. He scored three goals for the Calgary Flames earlier this season.
"I think in the first [period] we were real sloppy, trying to just turn it over in the neutral zone and not really putting a lot of pressure inside their offensive zone," Robertson said. "We kind of fixed that in the second and third, guys were trying to hold pucks longer and getting behind the defensemen."
Hintz tied it 2-2 just 53 seconds into the second period with a wrist shot from the right circle that deflected off the left post.

Max Domi scored into an empty net at 18:59 following the goals from Robertson and Benn for the 5-2 final.
Modano was in attendance to watch Robertson break his record and spoke to the team briefly.
"When you're breaking records of guys like Mike Modano, that's pretty special, it's rare air," DeBoer said. "The fact that he was here tonight shows you what a class act he is."
NOTES: Oettinger will start against Colorado, DeBoer said. … The Stars swept the four-game season series from the Coyotes, outscoring them 19-6. Robertson had six points (three goals, three assists) in the two games at Arizona. … Dallas is 27-0-2 when leading after two periods. … The Stars are 23-10-5 on the road. … Keller had 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in March, three off the franchise record for a month.
