Fantasy picks: Elias Lindholm viable value choice

Hurricanes forward among Jan. 23 DFS targets against Capitals

by Pete Jensen @NHLJensen / NHL.com Senior Fantasy Editor

Each day this season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This lineup has been constructed with expensive and value picks and should be used as a basis for your roster decision-making.

C - Mark Scheifele, WPG ($6,600)

Scheifele has 12 points in his past 10 games and has kept the Winnipeg Jets offense afloat without injured rookie Patrik Laine. He's riding a four-game point streak alongside Nikolaj Ehlers, and plays on the first power-play unit as well. He has 23 points in 22 games at home, where the Jets play the Anaheim Ducks on Monday.

C - Mika Zibanejad, NYR ($6,200)

Zibanejad is averaging 3.8 DraftKings points per game at home, where the New York Rangers play the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. Since returning from a broken fibula, he has two goals, three blocks and 10 shots on goal. He has played on the second line and second power-play unit, and has a great chance at a multipoint game alongside Pavel Buchnevich in all situations.

W - Mitchell Marner, TOR ($5,700)

Marner has 11 points in his past 10 games and 24 points in 22 games at Air Canada Centre, where the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Calgary Flames on Monday. He returned value against the Flames without scoring a point Nov. 30, when he had one block and five SOG for 3.0 DraftKings points. He's one of the top rookies in the League playing alongside James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak, and is still moderately priced in DFS.

W - Marian Gaborik, LAK ($4,200)

Gaborik is a glaring value pick against the Rangers, his former team, at Madison Square Garden, especially considering he's playing in a top-six role alongside a suddenly surging Anze Kopitar. The veteran right wing has five points and 25 SOG in his past 10 games, and has multiple SOG in each of his past four games.

W - Elias Lindholm, CAR ($4,000)

Lindholm has quietly been a point-per-game player in his past 10 games, and had another strong outing against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday with one assist, one block and four SOG (4.5 DraftKings points). He has found chemistry on the Carolina Hurricanes' third line alongside Jordan Staal and Brock McGinn, and has been effective against the Washington Capitals with one assist, three blocks and five SOG in two games against them this season.

D - Ryan McDonagh, NYR ($5,100)

McDonagh has been a reliable DFS option at home, with 16 points, 40 blocks and 39 SOG in 22 games (3.3 DraftKings points per game), and continues to see the bulk of the power-play time and production (10 power-play points) among Rangers defensemen.

D - Matt Niskanen, WSH ($4,800)

With Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) sidelined again, count on Niskanen to return value for an affordable price. He has multipoint outings in three of his past four games, and has three assists, three blocks and one SOG in two games against the Hurricanes this season.

G - Frederik Andersen, TOR ($7,900)

As much as the Maple Leafs' young offensive core is responsible for their rise in the Eastern Conference, Andersen's turnaround has also been instrumental. He's confirmed to start against the Flames on Monday and 11 of his 19 wins have come at home. He's 2-1-1 in his past four outings with at least 3.0 DraftKings points in each game.

UTIL - Nathan MacKinnon, COL ($5,500)

MacKinnon is worth rostering at his current low price every night out, even with the Colorado Avalanche 30th in the League with 28 points. He's averaging 3.5 DraftKings points per game in his past 10 thanks largely to his heavy shot volume (32 SOG in span). He logs major minutes at even strength and with the man advantage, and fared well against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday with one assist and seven SOG for 5.5 DraftKings points.
