Fantasy picks: Seth Jones thriving at even strength

Blue Jackets defenseman among Feb. 4 DFS targets against Devils at home

by Pete Jensen @NHLJensen NHL.com / Senior Fantasy Editor

Each day this season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This lineup has been constructed with expensive and value picks and should be used as a basis for your roster decision-making.

NOTE: This lineup is for 10-game Saturday contests beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

C - Kyle Turris, OTT ($5,600)

Turris has nine points in his past 10 games, with five coming on the Ottawa Senators' first power-play unit with Erik Karlsson, Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone and Derick Brassard. His shot volume is strong in the span (28 SOG) and he faces the Buffalo Sabres on the road, where he has 17 points in 22 games this season. He is tied with Mikko Koivu and Nathan MacKinnon for 22nd among centers in points per game (0.70) since 2013-14.

C - David Krejci, BOS ($5,100)

Krejci is having a solid season considering the two best wings on the Boston Bruins by far have been fixtures alongside Patrice Bergeron. But with Bergeron (lower body) likely sidelined against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, Krejci may get a rare chance to center Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak at home. He has scored at least 4.5 DraftKings points in six of his past nine games.

W - Nick Foligno, CBJ ($5,900)

The Columbus Blue Jackets host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday with each on short rest. Foligno has a knack for scoring in his net-front role, and is in a great spot at even strength with Alexander Wennberg and Brandon Saad. He has 18 power-play points (T-9th in NHL entering Friday) and has been excellent at home (20 points in 23 games).

W - Patrick Eaves, DAL ($5,200)

With Jason Spezza (upper body) sidelined for the Dallas Stars, fantasy owners can expect Patrick Eaves to be relied upon heavily at even strength and on the power play. His chemistry with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin has been evident for much of the past two seasons, and Eaves has scored 15 of his 33 points with the man-advantage. He has 10 points in his past 10 games and will have exposure to high-end scoring chances at home against the Chicago Blackhawks.

W - Evander Kane, BUF ($5,000)

Kane is a high-floor daily fantasy option with 46 SOG in his past 10 games after seven against the New York Rangers on Thursday. He has one assist, two blocks and four SOG in two games against the Senators this season (3.5 DraftKings points per game). He missed time early in the season because of injury, but his current pace stretched over 82 games would be 50 points despite mostly a third-line, second power-play role.

D - Duncan Keith, CHI ($5,300)

Keith and Brent Burns are the only defensemen with at least 35 points, 10 PPP and 120 SOG. Keith (69) and Burns (88) also cover the blocks category well.

There is a big gap between the fantasy value of Burns and any other defenseman, but the $3,100 price difference between Burns ($8,400) and Keith is worth taking advantage of. Keith has had at least 2.5 DraftKings points in each of his past five games, and averages 4.2 DraftKings points per game against the Stars this season (three assists, four blocks, nine SOG in three games).

D - Seth Jones, CBJ ($5,300)

Jones is seventh among defensemen in even-strength points (22) and tied for 12th at his position in points per game (0.60). Prior to Columbus' game Friday, Jones had six points and 16 SOG in a four-game span. His offense is clearly picking up, and his blocks total (76 in 43 games) rounds out his strong fantasy profile. He should get involved in the scoring against the Devils, who have been outscored 81-63 on the road this season.

G - Pekka Rinne ($8,100) or Juuse Saros ($7,900), NSH

Rinne (12-4-4, .927 save percentage, two shutouts) and Saros (2-1-2, .932 SV%) each has been stellar at home this season, and should keep it going against the Detroit Red Wings, who will be on the second leg of a back-to-back set. If Saros starts, he'll likely bounce back after allowing five goals in his most-recent start Jan. 24. If the Predators ride the hot hand with Rinne, he's worth spending up for with seven wins and a .937 SV% in his past 10 games.

UTIL - Tomas Hertl, SJS ($4,500)

After being held without a point in his return to the San Jose Sharks lineup on Jan. 26, Hertl has points in back-to-back games against the Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks. He played on the first line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski and saw some power-play time against the Canucks, and offers cheap exposure to the Sharks offense against the Arizona Coyotes at home. Hertl had two assists and three SOG against them Nov. 1.
