Fantasy picks: Mikkel Boedker can thrive on top line

Sharks forward among Oct. 27 DFS targets against Blue Jackets

by Pete Jensen @NHLJensen / NHL.com Fantasy Insider

Each day this season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This list of targets includes expensive and value options at each position to help you build a winning roster.

C - Anze Kopitar, LAK ($6,000) - Kopitar has points in five of his first six games and 19 shots on goal for the Los Angeles Kings this season. He can be easily stacked with linemate and power-play sidekick Tyler Toffoli (W, $5,600), who's due for an outburst (one goal on 18 SOG; 3.4 DraftKings points per game). Plus he is playing the Nashville Predators, who are on the second leg of a back-to-back set.

C - Eric Staal, MIN ($5,100) - Staal's resurgence in Minnesota is real; he has assists in consecutive games and scored two goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 20. He has 18 SOG in seven games and is moderately priced against the Buffalo Sabres, who are allowing three goals per game. Staal is playing alongside Charlie Coyle and Nino Niederreiter at even strength and is on the Wild's first power-play unit with Zach Parise.

W - Patrik Laine, WPG ($6,200) - Laine hasn't scored a goal in two games since his hat trick Oct. 19, but has one assist and six SOG in that span on the Winnipeg Jets' top line and first power-play unit with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. He faces the Dallas Stars, who rank 18th in penalty kill (78.3 percent) in the second leg of a home-and-home set.

W - Jonathan Drouin, TBL ($5,700) - If you don't want to stack linemates (i.e. Kopitar-Toffoli) on this nine-game DFS slate, invest in Drouin, who has five points in six games this season with 19 SOG and four blocked shots (4.0 DraftKings points per game). He provides exposure to Steven Stamkos at even strength and Nikita Kucherov on the power play.

W - Mikkel Boedker, SJS ($4,400) - Boedker is getting a trial on the San Jose Sharks' top line alongside Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski, which means association to defenseman Brent Burns as well. The Sharks' Thursday opponent, the Columbus Blue Jackets, is allowing the fifth-most DraftKings points to opposing wings this season.

D - Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI ($6,200) - The Arizona Coyotes' only win in six games this season came against the Philadelphia Flyers, so expect the Flyers to be out for some payback Thursday at home. The Coyotes are allowing the most DraftKings points to opposing defensemen, and Gostisbehere should snap out of his two-game scoring drought with at least one point and multiple SOG.

D - Keith Yandle, FLA ($4,500) - The Florida Panthers' power play is bound to eventually bust out, and Yandle should be along for the ride once it happens. Florida faces the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are allowing the second-most DraftKings points to opposing defensemen. Yandle has no goals and one assist through six games but has respectable category coverage (eight blocks, 16 SOG).

G - Martin Jones, SJS ($7,900) - Jones had a few rocky outings during the Sharks' long road trip, but is 2-0-0 at SAP Center this season with two goals allowed on 42 shots faced in wins against the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings. He has already faced the Blue Jackets this season, stopping 26 of 28 shots faced in a win Oct. 15 at Nationwide Arena.

Cheaper goalie option: Connor Hellebuyck ($6,900) will start against the Stars at home. His save percentage has improved in his past two starts, and the Jets should make adjustments and take advantage of an injury-plagued Dallas team after losing to them Tuesday on the road.

UTIL - Matt Moulson, BUF ($4,000) - Moulson leads the NHL with four power-play goals, playing on the first unit with Ryan O'Reilly, Rasmus Ristolainen, Kyle Okposo and Sam Reinhart. He faces a stiff test against the top-ranked Wild penalty kill (95.2), but Moulson is still worth a flier priced outside the top 75 wings on this busy DFS night.
