Each day this season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This article includes expensive and value plays and should be used as a basis for your roster decision-making.
TOP CENTER: Nicklas Backstrom, WSH ($6,800)
The Washington Capitals center continues to quietly produce, as he has done most of his career. Backstrom has 75 points (21 goals, 54 assists) this season, including four assists in a 5-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday (9.0 DraftKings points). Backstrom has three goals and nine assists in his past 10 games, and with the Capitals in a close race with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference, you can expect him to continue to pile up the points against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
VALUE CENTER: Adam Henrique, NJD ($3,900)
It's been a disappointing season for the New Jersey Devils, who enter Tuesday with the fewest points in the Eastern Conference. But Henrique ranks fourth on the Devils in points (38) and second in goals (19). Although he's only averaging 2.7 DraftKings points per contest this season, he is on a four-game point streak (three goals, two assists), which has led to a 4.9 average in those games. Henrique has two points in three games against the New York Rangers this season and is also a threat on the penalty kill; he has three shorthanded points this season, which earn a one-point bonus in DraftKings contests.

TOP WING: Patrick Kane, CHI ($8,300)
It's hard to argue with selecting Kane, who is the top-price wing in this contest. He has eight goals and six assists in his past 14 games, good for 5.9 DraftKings points per contest. He's also had multipoint games in five of his past 10 games. Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks are 17-3-0 in their past 20 games. Kane is among the NHL scoring leaders with 32 goals, 47 assists and 79 points this season and will play against the Vancouver Canucks, who he's had two points and 11 SOG against this season (5.3 DraftKings points per contest).
VALUE WING: Elias Lindholm, CAR ($4,700)
Lindholm's price has actually gone down from $4,900 seven games ago, despite the fact that he is on a seven-game point streak (three goals, four assists). The Carolina Hurricanes forward has at least two SOG in seven of his past 10 games and has accumulated at least 3.0 DraftKings points in each of his past seven games. Lindholm will face the Florida Panthers, who have lost seven of their past nine games.

TOP DEFENSEMAN: Dustin Byfuglien, WPG ($6,500)
The Winnipeg Jets defenseman is the same price as Victor Hedman of the Lightning, but is the better option; Byfuglien has 47 points (12 goals, 35 assists) in 72 games, compared to Hedman's 59 (14 goals, 45 assists). They are virtually even in blocks (Byfuglien 115; Hedman 116), but Byfuglien has a huge advantage in SOG with 223, compared to 144 for Hedman. Byfuglien has averaged 3.8 DraftKings points per game this season and 4.7 in his past 10 games; Hedman has averaged 3.9 DraftKings points per game but 4.2 in his past 10 games, making Byfuglien the better option against the Philadelphia Flyers.
VALUE DEFENSEMAN: Ivan Provorov, PHI, ($4,600)
Provorov had gone 15 games without scoring before he had a goal and two assists (8.0 DraftKings points) in a 4-3 overtime win against the Hurricanes on Sunday. The game caused his price to rise $200, but he is still a relative bargain at this price. Provorov has six goals and 22 assists in 71 games this season and has averaged 2.9 DraftKings points per game. He also averages slightly more than two blocks per game (2.05) and is a good option against the Jets.

GOALIE SPOTLIGHT: Antti Raanta, NYR ($8,400)
The Rangers goalie is expected to make his sixth straight start against the Devils on Tuesday, filling in for the injured Henrik Lundqvist. Although he is tied for the third-highest in price among goalies in the contest, he gets the benefit of playing against the Devils, who have lost 12 of their past 13 games (1-10-2). Raanta has gone 2-0-0 with a 1.49 GAA, a .947 SV% and a shutout against the Devils in two starts this season, good for an average of 7.9 DraftKings points per game.
