BUFFALO -- The Buffalo Sabres will have a new face in the lineup against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night.
Forward Matt D'Agostini, who was acquired off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, will make his Sabres debut. Mikhail Grigorenko will be scratched to make room for him up front.
"[I'm] obviously very excited," D'Agostini said about being picked up by the Sabres. "The thought of someone wanting you. It's just another new story for me, so hopefully I'll get off to a good one tonight."
D'Agostini will be on the second line with center Ville Leino and Sabres captain Steve Ott.
"He's a big time shooter, he's scored over 20 in this League already, so getting him the puck is going to be key," Ott said. "I'm sure he's going to want to prove a lot of his game, obviously, getting picked up and getting a fresh chance on a new team. He's going to want to bring it."
The Sabres also have a change on the blue line as defenseman Mike Weber will return to the lineup in place of Brayden McNabb. Coach Ted Nolan said he's giving McNabb and Grigorenko a break before putting them back in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.
Ryan Miller was the first goalie off at the morning skate and will get the start.
The Maple Leafs held an optional skate Friday as they look to rebound from their 6-5 shootout loss to the Penguins on Wednesday.
"What we're looking for is a complete effort from our group," Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. "We know this is going to be a raucous building. We know half the building is going to have Leafs fans in it. We know Buffalo is out to make a statement. We know that the last back-to-backs we played against them were very competitive. That's what we can expect. We have to be on top of our game."
Jonathan Bernier was the only goalie participating at the morning skate, meaning James Reimer likely gets the start against the Sabres. Defenseman Morgan Rielly stayed on the ice late for extra work meaning he could be scratched in favor of Jake Gardiner.
The Maple Leafs have also recalled forward Carter Ashton from the American Hockey League.
