The Toronto Maple Leafs are in Shawn Mendes' blood, and they made sure the pop star was appropriately dressed while attending their season opener Wednesday.

Former Toronto goalie Curtis Joseph delivered a personalized Maple Leafs jersey to Mendes during the first period of the home game against the Montreal Canadiens.

We don’t want to be holding @ShawnMendes back so we had @Cujo hook him up with a new sweater.

Mendes was born in Toronto and grew up a big Maple Leafs fan in Pickering, Ontario, about 27 miles northeast of Toronto. He also has reportedly developed something of a friendship with Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner.

The Maple Leafs played a montage of Mendes' music in the arena before Joseph gave the singer the jersey. The sellout crowd at Scotiabank Arena may not have been in stitches but was delighted nonetheless.
