Coyotes sign their top draft pick of 2006 @NHL

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes signed center Peter Mueller, their top draft pick of 2006, to an entry-level contract and re-signed defenseman Brendan Bell on Thursday.

Mueller, 19, got a three-year deal for $850,000 per season. The No. 8 overall pick in last year's draft, Mueller was the Western Hockey League rookie of the year for the 2005-06 season when he had 26 goals and 32 assists in 52 games for Everett.

Last season for Everett, he posted 21 goals and 57 assists in 51 games.

Mueller, a native of Bloomington, Minn., also played on Team USA's bronze medal-winning team at this year's world junior championship.

Bell, 24, played 14 games for Phoenix last season and had two assists. He was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a trade on Feb. 27.

Bell, a restricted free agent, made $450,000 last season and had filed for salary arbitration after rejecting a two-way contract offer from Phoenix in early July.
