GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes called up scrappy forward Pete Vandermeer from their AHL affiliate in San Antonio and signed him to an NHL contract Friday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 32-year-old Vandermeer is the oldest of six hockey-playing brothers but has yet to play in an NHL game.
Phoenix hosts Nashville on Sunday night.
Vandermeer has 210 penalty minutes in 21 games this season for San Antonio and ranks fifth all-time in the AHL with 2,374 career penalty minutes.
He has led his team in penalty minutes in seven of his 11 pro seasons.
