Coyotes prospects to make final push for roster spot

by Staff

The Arizona Coyotes' preseason finale on Friday will be very important for four young forwards attempting to make the regular-season roster.

The Coyotes website said Thursday, "At this point it appears prospects Max Domi, Anthony Duclair, Matthias Plachta and Dylan Strome are competing directly for two jobs. Then again, perhaps a third will make the team and a veteran may find himself elsewhere on Monday."

The Coyotes play the San Jose Sharks before starting the regular season next Friday at the Los Angeles Kings.

Duclair is expected to play after missing three of the five previous games because of a lower-body injury. The 20-year-old would skate on a line with Domi and veteran Antoine Vermette.

Plachta is a 24-year-old undrafted free agent from Germany. Strome, 18, was the No. 3 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, behind Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres.

"It's the same as every other preseason game," Strome said. "They seem to like what I've been doing so I'm just going to try to continue that and hopefully my dreams can come true next Friday."
