"It's a little longer than we thought," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "Nothing is serious, nothing broken. It's not long-term. But it might be still a few more days. You have to follow doctors' orders. We weren't sure at the time of injury. We felt that it was minor. It is minor, but they will not be in the lineup tonight."
Both are out day-to-day, Hartley said.
Defenseman Dennis Wideman has been reinstated and is eligible to play for Calgary after arbitrator James Oldham reduced Wideman's suspension for physical abuse of an official during a Jan. 27 game from 20 games to 10.
The Flames recalled forward Kenny Agostino from Stockton of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis. Agostino leads Stockton in points (42) and assists (25) and is second in goals (17). The 23-year-old made his NHL debut in 2013-14 when he recorded a goal and an assist over eight games with the Flames.
"He's had a real good season in Stockton," Hartley said. "Very productive. That's the kind of player that we saw once he came out of college. He had a real good stint with us. Remember two years ago at the end of the season? He could have easily scored five, 10 goals. He had a bunch of posts. He had some great chances. Right now with the loss of [Jiri Hudler], the loss of [David Jones], and Sammy's injury, here the door is wide open."
Agostino is excited for the chance.
"I just want to make an impression and make the most of my opportunity," he said. "There's a lot of opportunity here right now. It's important to make the most of it. Not being here for a couple years, it makes you really understand you're privileged to play in this league. I'm looking forward to making the most of it."
Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson is expected to miss his second consecutive game because of an upper-body injury. Ekman-Larsson, who leads Arizona with 49 points and is second with 19 goals, sat out a 3-2 overtime loss at the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. He was injured Monday in a 3-1 loss at the Colorado Avalanche.
"He was out there skating, which is a good sign, but he won't play," Arizona coach Dave Tippett said. "He's still a few days away from playing."
Ekman-Larsson, who had played 188 consecutive regular-season games before sustaining the injury, is also questionable against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
"I would say 'unlikely,' but you never know," Tippett said. "He gets out there and he likes being on the ice, so we'll see."
