GLENDALE -Coyotes players are excited to be competing in their first home preseason game tonight at Gila River Arena. That excitement stretches beyond the locker room and into Arizona's business office as the team is using the game to create excitement among young fans as part of Youth Hockey/Community Night.
Looking to add buzz to the exhibition game, the Coyotes have donated more than 10,000 game tickets to all registered youth hockey players in the Valley and to various charitable groups including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Arizona, the Valley of the Sun YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Arizona and the Phoenix Salvation Army.

"We see this team as a community asset," Team President and CEO Ahron Cohen said. "This community has given us an awful lot over the years and we view this as our responsibility to give back and really expose a lot of people to this great game of hockey."
The Coyotes also distributed game tickets to nearby Luke Air Force Base.
"What we're really hopeful for tonight is that there's going to be a lot of kids sitting in the stands that get their first exposure to Coyotes hockey and say 'This is great, I love this sport and I want to play hockey' or 'I want to continue playing hockey.' Then, 10 years from now, hopefully we're sitting here and a couple of those kids come back to play for the Coyotes or for another team in the League."

Cohen also is passionate about the team's recently announced Coyotes For A Cause initiative, a program designed to benefit nonprofit organizations via ticket sales for four select games that frame Thanksgiving.
"A big initiative of mine since I took over as CEO is to really integrate ourselves in the community," Cohen said. "Everything we do, every decision we make, I want it running through the framework of is this advancing our efforts in the community."
Seven dollars from each ticket sold for those games will be donated to a non-profit organization, and the Coyotes will match that $7 donation for a total of $14 donated.
Cohen said staff research indicated that $7 can feed a family one meal.
"Our mantra on this is 'You feed a family, We feed a family,'" Cohen said. "We just see this as a really nice opportunity to get some people to our games, sell some tickets and also make a positive impact on the community. It's a win-win."
