Couturier lifts Drummondville Voltigeurs to a 6-5 shootout win over P.E.I. @NHL

Sean Couturier and the Drummondville Voltigeurs needed extra time to keep pace with their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League rivals.

Couturier had a goal in regulation and was the only scorer in the shootout as the Voltigeurs edged the P.E.I. Rocket 6-5 in QMJHL action Saturday night.

The Rocket forced overtime by scoring three unanswered goals in the third period.

Drummondville is currently in second place overall behind the Saint John Sea Dogs, who routed the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 8-2.

Four of the top teams in the league won Saturday, as the Voltigeurs, Sea Dogs, Victoriaville Tigres and Moncton Wildcats all came out on top of their opponents.

Ondrej Palat scored twice to keep Drummondville in the game, while recently acquired goaltender Jake Allen stopped 34 shots.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Victoriaville 6 Gatineau 4; Moncton 5 Chicoutimi 1; Saint John 8 Acadie-Bathurst 2; and Val-d'Or 4 Lewiston 3 (SO).

At Charlottetown, P.E.I., Marc-Olivier Vachon and Charles Landry had the other goals for the Voltigeurs (33-12-2).

Samson Mahbod had a pair of goals and two assists for P.E.I. (24-19-4), while Benjamin Casavant, Brendan Wright and Jean-Philippe Mathieu also tallied.


Tigres 6 Olympiques 4

At Victoriaville, Que., Joel Chouinard and Philip-Michael Devos both scored twice and had two assists as the Tigres topped Gatineau.

Brandon Hynes and Joel Champagne added goals for Victoriaville (32-13-2).

Mitchell Porowski and Alex Noel both had a goal and an assist for Gatineau (23-19-4), while Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Vincent Barnard also tallied.


Wildcats 5 Sagueneens 1

At Moncton, N.B., Scott Brannon and Kelsey Tessier both scored and had an assist as the Wildcats beat Chicoutimi.

Marek Hrivik, Gabriel Bourque and Randy Cameron added singles for Moncton (30-11-4).

Alexandre Lavoie was the lone scorer for the Sagueneens (16-21-8).


Sea Dogs 8 Titan 2

At Saint John, N.B., Michael Kirkpatrick had a hat trick as the Sea Dogs toppled Acadie-Bathurst.

Yann Sauve scored and added two assists for Saint John (37-7-1), while Simon Despres, Jonathan Huberdeau, Nicholas Pard and Mike Thomas.

Jeremie Malouin and Julien Tremblay replied for the Titan (16-26-5).


Foreurs 4 Maineiacs 3 (SO)

At Val-d'Or, Que., Alexandre Touchette was the only scorer in the shootout as the Foreurs shaded Lewiston.

Samuel Morneau, Vincent Couture and Anthony Taylor had regulation goals for Val-d'Or (16-24-5).

Etienne Brodeur, Michal Hlinka and Pierre-Olivier Morin had scores for the Maineiacs (16-27-2).
