OTTAWA - Logan Couture and Corey Cowick scored goals in the shootout as the Ottawa 67's downed the Belleville Bulls 2-1 Friday night in the Ontario Hockey League.
"That's the closest thing you'll get to a playoff game this early in the season," said Cowick. "Two teams in the same division and a defensive battle. That's what it is in the playoffs, all defence. To get the two points is unbelievable but both goalies stood on their head."
Bulls netminder Mike Murphy made 50 saves in a losing effort, while Chris Perugini who stopped 31 shots in the Ottawa goal.
Thomas Kiriakou scored in regulation for the 67's (12-9-1-0). Shawn Lalonde replied for Belleville (14-6-3-0).
The teams played nearly 35 minutes of scoreless hockey to start the game before Lalonde scored at 14:30 of the second period and Kiriakou responded 36 second later.
