Corso's two-goal, two-assist effort lifts Hamilton past Grand Rapids 5-3 @NHLdotcom

HAMILTON - Daniel Corso scored twice and added two assists to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night in the American Hockey League.

Corey Locke added a goal and three assists for the Bulldogs (30-21-2-5). Locke has five goals and six assists against the Griffins (23-29-2-5) this season.

Carl Corazzini put Grand Rapids on the board with the Griffins enjoying a 5-on-3 advantage 5:57 into the game. Mark Cullen faked a shot from the high slot before sliding the puck to Corazzini, who shot high on Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis from the left wing.

The Bulldogs answered with a pair of goals to end the period with a 2-1 lead. Marvin Degon struck first, evening the score at 8:32. With just under five minutes remaining, Kyle Chipchura deked around Jason Josza and stuck the puck past the shoulder of Griffins netminder Jimmy Howard to give the Bulldogs their first lead.

Darren McCarty gave the Griffins some offence 1:10 into the second period, tipping Josza's shot from the left point past Danis to tie the game 2-2. Hamilton regained the lead at 17:35 when Locke snuck behind the Grand Rapids defence and beat Howard.

The Bulldogs padded the lead early in the third as Eric Manlow set up Corso for a power-play goal. For good measure, Corso zipped a breakaway shot from the left circle past Howard at 10:37, chasing the Griffins goaltender from the net.

Grand Rapids closed the scoring at 11:57 when Jamie Tardif slammed home the rebound of an Evan McGrath slap shot.

Howard stopped 19 shots for Grand Rapids, while Adam Berkhoel turned away both shots he faced in relief. Danis made 20 saves to earn the win for Hamilton.
