Combs scores winner on penalty shot as the Spirit beat Guelph 3-2 @NHLdotcom

GUELPH, Ont. - Jack Combs scored on a penalty shot midway through the third period as the Saginaw Spirit took a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference quarter-final series against the Guelph Storm with a 3-2 win on Sunday night in the Ontario Hockey League.

Combs also opened the scoring on a first-period power play for the Spirit, who host game three of the series in Saginaw, Mich., on Tuesday night. T.J. Brodie assisted on Combs' power-play goal and added one of his own a minute into the second period.

Tyler Melancon had a goal and an assist and Brandon Buck also scored for Guelph.

Edward Pasquale made 38 saves for Saginaw, while Storm netminder Brandon Foote stopped 39 shots.
