CBJ@STL: Buchnevich buries it on a nice give-and-go

ST. LOUIS -- Pavel Buchnevich had two goals and an assist for the St. Louis Blues in a 6-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Enterprise Center on Saturday.

Ivan Barbashev scored twice, Vladimir Tarasenko had three assists, and Ville Husso made 24 saves for the Blues (11-7-3), who had lost seven of nine (2-5-2).
"We've been having a tough time the last couple games, we didn't play great," Barbashev said. "I think it was time to turn around things and play simple, hard, and that's what we did in the second, and it looks like the game turned around, and it was good to win the game."

CBJ@STL: Kyrou finds the net on a partial breakaway

Adam Boqvist had two goals and an assist, and Joonas Korpisalo made 27 saves for the Blue Jackets (12-7-0), who had their three-game winning streak end.
"If we're going to win against St. Louis we've got to play better overall for 60 minutes," Boqvist said. "I think this was one of the worst games of the year for us."
Boone Jenner tipped in a Zach Werenski shot in front at 12:38 of the first period to give Columbus a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Jackets had the better of the play in the first, and it was obvious that the Blues needed someone to spark them. It was coach Craig Berube.
"Well, we needed something," Berube said. "In the first period, we got clearly outskated. Coming out, this game at home, we can't start like that.
"We took two penalties, no reason for it. [Columbus] ended up scoring on one of them. We got outskated in the first period. That's what it really boils down to."
St. Louis responded and scored twice in 58 seconds early in the second period. Buchnevich tied the game 1-1 at 58 seconds when he redirected a Tarasenko centering pass, and Barbashev scored on a rebound at 1:56 to make it 2-1.
"I think it was huge for us to get those two quick goals, especially in the first five minutes," Barbashev said. "That's what we've been told, to have a really good start in the second period. And yeah, it looks like since then we did turn the game around."

CBJ@STL: Barbashev whacks a loose puck into the net

Jordan Kyrou pushed the lead to 3-1 at 13:12 on a breakaway.
The Blues outshot the Blue Jackets 17-8 in the second and had the first 10 shots.
"I liked the first, and for about 14 minutes there [in the second] we couldn't stop anything, we couldn't gather ourselves, and the last six [minutes] we were fine, kind of caught ourselves," Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen said. "In the third, we were fine and then a couple mistakes and that's it.
"Good teams do that. They're a good hockey team, a big, heavy team. They got rolling there and we didn't have an answer for them."
Boqvist's one-timer from the slot on a power play at 1:03 of the third period brought the Blue Jackets within 3-2.
Justin Faulk took a pass from Robert Thomas in the slot and beat Korpisalo with a wrist shot at 5:42 to make it 4-2.
Buchnevich converted another Thomas pass through the crease at 10:30 to extend the lead to 5-2, and Barbashev made it 6-2 at 12:40.
"I feel like the more we play in the line, the more he plays for the Blues, he will find out the way we play hockey," Tarasenko said of Buchnevich, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers on July 23. "It's a little bit different. And he's doing really well, it's nice to play with him.
"And Robert, I think we start to understand each other better on the ice. It's always easy to play when you know what the guy next to you will do in the next second, so you don't need to think about it."
Boqvist scored at 17:46, a wrister from the right circle, for the 6-3 final.
