COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Blue Jackets named star winger Rick Nash team captain Wednesday, replacing the recently traded Adam Foote in the role.

Nash, 23, becomes the fifth captain in franchise history, following Lyle Odelein, Ray Whitney, Luke Richardson and Foote. The first overall pick in the 2002 draft is in his fifth NHL season and had been an alternate captain since 2005-06.

He leads the Blue Jackets in scoring with a career-high 58 points on 35 goals and 23 assists in 68 games.

Nash will make his debut with the "C" at home Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
