Erik Johnson scored a big win over the weekend.

The Colorado Avalanche defenseman's horse Shooters Shoot claimed a 3¼-length victory in the first race at Santa Anita Park on Sunday.

Shooters Shoot is co-owned by Johnson's ERJ Racing LLC. The 3-year-old, racing from the No. 1 position, ran the mile race in good track conditions in 1:38.87. He pulled ahead for good at the three-eighths pole for a dominant victory ahead of Friar's Road, which finished second.

"He was very comfortable," Abel Cedillo, the jockey who rides Shooters Shoot, told the Santa Anita website. "We had the rail, so I knew I had to get a position, but from there I left him alone. He handled it great."

The horse won $55,000 and it was Shooters Shoot's second exacta finish of 2020, with the other also coming at Santa Anita on Feb. 16. No fans were permitted at the track due to the coronavirus pandemic.
