COL@VGK: Marchessault taps in go-ahead PPG in front

Jonathan Marchessault scored the go-ahead goal on the power play late in the third period, helping the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-3 preseason win against the Colorado Avalanche at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Marchessault converted Reilly Smith's backhand feed in front to break a 3-3 tie with 4:10 remaining.
Laurent Brossoit made 18 saves in his debut for the Golden Knights, who were 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
Bowen Byram and Jack Johnson each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who were playing their preseason opener.
Patrick Brown gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 2:07 of the first period before Oskar Olausson tied it 1-1 at 10:06 in his NHL debut. The forward was selected in the first round (No. 28) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
Nicolas Hague put Vegas back in front 2-1 at 15:57 with a power-play goal.
Byram tied it 2-2 at 18:56 of the second period with a wrist shot from the left face-off dot with Brossoit screened. Johnson, in camp on a professional tryout contract, gave Colorado a 3-2 lead at 6:18 of the third period.
Alex Pietrangelo tied it 3-3 with a slap shot from the point 1:26 later at 7:44.
Pavel Francouz saved 14 of 16 shots playing 30:03 for the Avalanche. Jonas Johansson allowed two goals on 13 shots in relief.
