Coetzee scored twice for Red Deer as Red Deer sneaks by Kelowna 4-3 @NHLdotcom

KELOWNA, B.C. - Willie Coetzee had two goals for Red Deer, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had three assists, as the Rebels beat the Kelowna Rockets 4-3 in an entertaining Western Hockey League game Saturday night.

Colin Archer, with his fourth goal of the season, and Lane Scheidl, with his fifth, also scored for Red Deer (24-18-4).

Cody Chikie, Dallas Jackson and Brandon McMillan replied for Kelowna (19-25-3). Mark Guggenberger made 21 stops for the Rockets. The loss was the Rockets' sixth in a row and 11th in their last 12 games.

Darcy Kuemper started for Red Deer, and put in a 14-save effort, but left the game in the first minute of the third when McMillan dove to knock in a trickling five-hole rebound following a slap shot from the left faceoff dot. Kuemper left the game with a sore groin. Kraymer Barnstable made 14 saves in relief, as the Rockets out-shot the Rebels 16-7 in the third.

A six-foot centre from Burnaby, B.C., in his second WHL season, Nugent-Hopkins, 16, now has 18 goals and 42 points in 41 games. Coetzee made it 2-1 early in the second period with a power-play goal, then 4-1 at 17:07 with a breakaway goal.
