Cody Gross scores overtime winner as Rebels defeat Ice 3-2 in WHL action @NHLdotcom

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Cody Gross scored the shootout winner as the Red Deer Rebels edged the Kootenay Ice 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Sunday night.

Kootenay opened the scoring 5:49 into the game when Jesse Ismond buried a rebound past Darcy Kuemper, putting the Ice up 1-0.

Landon Ferraro tied the game when he scored his 21st of the season on a 2-on-1 break.

Michael Stickland gave Kootenay (19-14-2-4) the lead again late in the period, scoring while the Ice were on a 5-on-3 power play.

Red Deer (15-19-0-5) tied the game at two in the second period when Rebel captain Colin Archer rang a point shot off the post that deflected off the back of Ice goaltender Nathan Lieuwen's leg.

Gross and Landon Ferraro scored in the shootout while Matt Fraser scored for the Ice.

Kuemper stopped 32 of 34 shots to get the win while Lieuwen stopped 18 of 20 to take the loss.
