Clayton with first WHL hat trick to lead Hitmen over Roylas 9-4 @NHLdotcom

VICTORIA - Chase Clayton had a game he will always remember.

Clayton scored his first Western Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday as his Calgary Hitmen defeated the Victoria Royals 9-4.

Jimmy Bubnick had two goals and two assists for the Hitmen (20-16-3), Cody Sylvester scored once and set up two more and Alex Gogolev, Joe Kornelsen and Brady Brassart added a goal each. Danny Gayle chipped in with three assists.

Logan Nelson replied with a three-goal performance for the Royals (13-23-4) while Zane Jones added a goal and an assist.

Brandon Glover made 22 saves for the win while Jared Rathjen allowed all nine goals against on 27 shots.

Calgary scored three times on four power-play opportunities as Victoria went 1 for 3.

Kevin Sundher picked up an assist to extend his point streak to nine games, however his Royals have now dropped seven straight.
