ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Chris Volpe was a winner in his debut and Chris DeSousa scored twice as the Niagara IceDogs snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.
Volpe replaced Andrew Loverock, who had started every game since the IceDogs' season opener and was the league leader in minutes played with 1,506 and saves with 749.
The goals came quickly in the first period, with Owen Sound's Joshua Dominques and Niagara's Reggie Traccitto scoring just 12 seconds apart.
DeSousa scored once in the second period, but was credited with two. He was given his first goal when Attack defenceman Paul Bezzo put a rebound into his own goal, then scored on Matt Corrente's rebound with just 3.3 seconds remaining in the second period.
Jordan Foreman added the fourth IceDogs' goal in the third period.
Niagara (13-12-0-1) was outshot by Owen Sound (9-16-1-0) 42-31.
