PLYMOUTH, Mich.-The Plymouth Whalers blew a 4-2 lead, but came back to beat the Brampton Battalion, 7-6 in a shootout Friday night in Ontario Hockey League action.
Bobby Sanguinetti gave Brampton (35-20-1-3) their first lead of the game at 18:43 of the third period only to have that erased when Vern Cooper tied the game at six with his second goal of the game with 24 seconds left.
Chris Terry scored twice for the Whalers (32-22-2-2) to go along with singles from AJ Jenks and Christian Steingraber.
Terry and Jenks scored the only goals in the shootout.
Thomas Stajan, Jason Dale, Graham McNabb, Cody Hodgson and Kyle DeCoste tallied for the Battalion.
For Plymouth, Jeremy Smith stopped 45 shots for the win, while Patrick Killeen made 25 saves at the other end.
Smith stopped both Brampton shooters in the shootout, Luke Lynes and Sanguinetti, and though he allowed two soft goals in regulation, made two big stops on Cory Emmerton and Hodgson in overtime.
Before the game, a moment of silence was observed for Windsor Spitfires captain Mickey Renaud, who passed away suddenly this past Monday.
