SASKATOON - Adam Chorneyko scored in the sixth round of a shootout Wednesday to lead the Saskatoon Blades to a 2-1 Western Hockey League win over the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Seattle (7-11-1-2) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Jim O'Brien at 9:52 of the first period. Prab Rai passed the puck through the crease to O'Brien, who beat Braden Holtbyfor his eighth goal of the year. Stefan Elliott tied the game in the second period for Saskatoon (15-6-1-0).
Saskatoon outshot Seattle 7-5 in the first period. Sam Klassen and Milan Kytnar had assists.
Seattle was awarded a penalty shot at 3:55 of overtime when Lindsay Nielsen was hauled down on a breakaway by the Blades' Walter Wintoneak. Nielsen tried to beat Holtby through his legs with a backhand shot, but the Saskatoon goalie made the save.
Holtby stopped 34 of 35 shots, while Seattle's Calvin Pickard made 27 saves on 29 shots.
