Chiefs unleash offence early en route to 9-1 drubbing of Portland @NHL

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs scored four times on their first five shots in the first period and never looked back, routing the Portland Winter Hawks 9-1 in WHL action on Sunday night.

Judd Blackwater (3-1-4) and Ondrej Roman (1-3-4) each had four point nights for Spokane while Levko Koper and Curtis Kelner chipped in with three points apiece to pace the Chiefs attack. Jace Coyle and Chris Bruton each had two assists.

Nick Hotson had Portland's lone goal, scoring on a rebound of a Lucas Alexiuk point shot late in the first period to cut the score to 4-1. Frazer McLaren also picked up an assist on the goal.

Kurtis Mucha started in net for Portland but was relieved just 4:50 into the opening period after allowing three goals on four shots. Jordan White came in and stopped 32 of 38 shots for Portland. Kevin Armstrong stopped 32-of-33 Portland shots on the night.

Spokane went 1-for-6 on the power play while Portland finished the night 0-for-4.
