The honor is part of Hockey Fights Cancer night for the Blackhawks. Olczyk, also a Blackhawks TV analyst, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer on Aug. 4, 2017. After chemotherapy sessions from September to February, the 52-year-old Olczyk announced he was cancer-free on March 22.
An "NHL on NBC" analyst and former Blackhawks forward, Olczyk, wearing his hockey equipment, will join the Chicago starting lineup on the ice for the national anthem.
"Just getting a chance to skate out there, I won't be able to say it, but hopefully people will know for me, I'm looking at it as a way to say thank you," Olczyk said. "It was an honor to have put on that sweater and play in the NHL for 16 years."
Olczyk, selected by the Blackhawks No. 3 in the 1984 NHL Draft, scored 209 points (77 goals, 132 assists) in 322 games with the Blackhawks. He scored 794 points (342 goals, 452 assists) in 1,031 NHL games for the Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Blackhawks have recognized former players with "One More Shift" for three seasons. Former forwards Denis Savard, Al Secord, Jeremy Roenick, Bryan Bickell and Troy Murray and goaltender Ed Belfour are among those who have been honored.
