Hellebuyck, Jets shut out Blackhawks, 4-0

Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves for the Winnipeg Jets in a 4-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg on Saturday.

Hellebuyck's shutout was his second this season and 30th in the NHL.
"Our details have been right," Hellebuyck said. "We're getting everyone's 'A' game right now. We've got a lot of character in this room and it's starting to show. We care about winning and we're showing it."
Pierre-Luc Dubois and Josh Morrissey each had a goal and an assist for the Jets (7-3-1), who are 5-0-1 in their past six games. All four goals came on special teams (three on power play, one short-handed).
Dylan Wells made 12 saves in his NHL debut for the Blackhawks (5-5-2). He entered the game at the start of the third period after Arvid Soderblom (21 saves) left because of an undisclosed injury.
"That's been a goal of mine since I was a kid, so I'm really happy," Wells said. "At the end of the day, my job is to stop the puck, it doesn't matter what league that's in, whether that's here or in the AHL. When I got told I was going in, it was just, 'Keep the mindset simple, stop the puck.'"

Morrissey gave the Jets a 1-0 lead at 10:04 of the second period when his shot from the point got past a screened Soderblom on the power play.
"We feel very confident in the offense," Jets coach Rick Bowness said. "We got five points from our defense tonight, that's huge, I know there were power plays. But they're involved a lot more. We're confident in our offensive abilities and our ability to put the puck in the net. We just got to continue to stress that we're going to get good offence from good team defense."
Adam Lowry made it 2-0 at 13:33, winning a puck battle in the neutral zone and scoring on a short-handed breakaway. Two of Lowry's three goals this season have been short-handed.
"That really deflated us a lot," Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. "I thought we played a very good road first period and first half of the game. Unfortunately, they scored on the power play and then a short-handed one right after that, that really hurts. It took a little bit out of our sail, that's for sure."
Dubois pushed it to 3-0 at 17:55 when he snapped home a cross-ice pass from Kyle Connor on the power play.

Nate Schmidt extended the lead to 4-0 at 4:59 in the third period with a power-play goal from the left circle.
"It was a great effort today," Morrissey said. "We're sticking to our game plan. Obviously, tonight special teams was huge. [Hellebuyck] in net was fantastic. I think the things we are trying to see out of our team are [to become] more and more consistent, and hopefully we can keep that going. It's another step in the right direction."
NOTES: There was no update on Soderblom's injury after the game. "The trainer came in after the second period and just said he wasn't feeling good, and Wells is here," Richardson said. "He stood really strong for us in the third period, but it's definitely concerning with our goalie injuries at this point. Hopefully he's not too bad." … The Blackhawks have two other injured goalies. Petr Mrazek has not played since sustaining a groin injury in a 4-3 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings on Oct.21. Alex Stalock sustained a concussion in a 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Nov. 1.
